$104.00

A tour of the beautiful Otago Harbour on a one hour wildlife cruise of the Otago Peninsula followed by a guided tour of the Yellow Eyed Penguin Reserve, and returning to Dunedin by road along the scenic Otago Peninsula enjoying spectacular harbour and ocean views.

This tour combines a cruise of the beautiful Otago Harbour, a one hour wildlife cruise with unrivaled viewing of the exciting diversity of wildlife which abounds around Taiaroa Head on the Otago Peninsula including the only mainland nesting place for Northern Royal Albatross in the world. You will also see New Zealand Fur Seals, rarely seen ocean birds, including other species of albatross; you may also see penguins, dolphins, sea lions and other marine mammals in their natural environment. The cruise includes commentary which includes details of the fascinating history and geology of the area.

Then on to a guided tour of the Yellow Eyed Penguin Reserve to see the rarest penguin in the world found only on the south east coast of New Zealand. A short bus trip over the farm takes the small groups to the reserve. While in the reserve your guide will lead you on foot through a unique system of covered trenches into viewing hides. Allowing access to the living areas and breeding grounds of this shy penguin, which provides the opportunity to witness and photograph undisturbed activity at close range. Medium fitness is required on this tour.

Client Reviews

  • Loved this wildlife cruise! Saw Royal Albatross as well as three species of lesser albatross, seals, sea lions, yellow eyed penguins and lots of other bird life. Especially enjoyed the informative narrative from the bus driver, who collected us from the cruise ship, the penguin tour guide and boat captain. Supplied with big warm jackets on the boat, and a hot drink and bicky. Highly recommended!

  • We enjoyed the trip very much. We were picked up, on time by Bruce, a nice guy who gave us a bit of a city tour on the way to the boat. Boat trip was good, all staff very helpful and accommodating, jackets and binoculars provided. Even made everyone a tea or coffee. Saw lots of birds, also went to the penguin sanctuary which was awesome, never been so close to them before, we learned lots of surprising info. too.

    "Great Option"
We really enjoyed our wildlife cruise and then went to the Yellow Eyed Penguin Reserve. This was just terrific as we got to see the penguins up really close and person from the trenches without disturbing them at all. If you like wildlife this is a great option.
